Managing Matrix Organizations

based on the power of communities or practices

Matrix organizations

In a matrix organization, communities (also referred to as practices) form the horizontal axis, while delivery represents the vertical axis. Communities focus on people and talent development, whereas delivery is closely aligned with business and client needs. Companies may use the term “practice” or “community” to describe this concept.

Communities are people-centric organizations that foster talent growth. Typically, multiple communities exist within a company, each centered around specific skill sets such as project management, solution architecture, software development, or expertise in areas like ERP, CRM, and cloud technologies.

The model allows organizations to scale up, to prepare their future and to rapidly onboard of offboard people on the projects based on the needs.

Core members know what good looks like and are highly valued by both the team and the stakeholders.

Pod’s are purpose-built, cross-functional delivery teams.

Pod teams often are built hybrid, where client and partner skill set and experience are leveraged to achieve the best outcome.
